Karnataka Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons
Namaskara!
Greetings from KAPRAS to you. KAPRAS is the association of Plastic , Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons of Karnataka, India. I am honoured to have been elected as its President in 2025.
KAPRAS is still young. I still remember the days when we had meetings during the gestation and the problems in delivering this baby. Inspite of the Covid challenge, this baby is now a properly growing teenager. This is entirely due to the efforts of all the office bearers who have worked selflessly. I would like to emphasise that again. The altruistic nature of the work needs more motivation than our primary calling as plastic surgeons. I would like to express my admiration and gratitude to all those teams, led by inspiring Presidents- for getting us to this point today.
Today, we are firmly on our feet . The last year saw a sustained effort to popularise at the district levels was innovative and done overcoming numerous challenges . Dr Smitha Segu, our Past President, deserves special appreciation for this. However, both at the national and local level, we face the same challenges. We still need to jostle with others to prove our superior skill sets.
We need to talk of opportunities. People expect scarless surgeries. That means people expect fantastic results from us. And that is what we need to project. We are special because of this expectation, unlike others. This special in our super specialty degree is our unique selling point. Lets be proued of the fact that we do everything better. That we are always under pressure to meet those expectations. Once we talk of better quality, the noise on cost etc will fade.
My theme for my tenure is “Improve the Perspective" . I did not say change, because I want to be positive. In brief, this is not just about what people think, but what everyone we deal with thinks. Other specialities, hospital admins, General practitioners, Media, Public- literally everyone can become part of our broad outreach. And, because I am in a Tier 2 city, I will focus more on virtual modes rather than physical modes.
Finally, alone I am not going to make a difference. Together, we can all become a formidable force. I am going to ask each one of you for help. I am also going to be persistent. For each of us, the job is small. But together the effect is large. Thank you once again for allowing me this privilege of being your President. I am not here to change the world. But with your help, I hope to make it a better place for all of us.
Jai Hind, Jai Karnataka.
